The accelarator for aviation Innovation: How robotics and automation are changing aviation was the topic of the ZAL Innovation Days on 27th - 28th February 2019 in Hamburg. Thomas Jarzombek, Coordinator of the Federal Government for German Aerospace, supported the event as patron: "Aviation is the engine for innovation, and events like the ZAL Innovation Days are the accelerator". At the event, industry leaders Kuka, Festo, DFKI and Siemens and others reported on the potential of artificial intelligence, robots, exoskeletons and autonomous systems and explained their increasing use in aviation. But there was more than theory: for the first time Airbus and XYREC demonstrated the prototype of a printing robot that is to revolutionize aircraft painting. The program was varied. Keynotes, workshops and technical tours provided insight into one of today's most relevant topics.
