ZAL GmbH  held an Open Lab day on 21 May for all those interested in what goes on in the ZAL TechLabs. The event was a great success. The numerous guests immersed themselves in ZAL R&T’s versatile and multidisciplinary research topics in specialist areas such as Robotics, Additive Manufacturing, Electrical Energy Systems, Acoustics and Digital Technologies.

Over snacks and coffee, visitors had an opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss new ideas and projects with the ZAL experts on hand. Guests were also able to take an closer look at technology such as the 3D printing robot HuTAb, the Safety AGV and its "little brother" ZALamander, a fuel cell drone called ZALbatros, an intelligent program for optical image recognition and much more.

At the same time, the new Lab for Additive Manufacturing and Testing was introduced to the public at the Open Lab. The Additive Manufacturing team is dedicated to functional integration, hybrid manufacturing, fused filament fabrication with metal, and topology optimization. In the testing area, the TechLab is geared towards the incremental borehole method using the hole drilling system, in addition to optical component measurement. This facility provides an ideal basis for research and development in additive manufacturing, but also in laser shock peening. As a result, you can expect to see some exciting projects ahead.
